“Pain that is not transformedwill always be transmitted.” — Fr Richard Rohr —

Ons is blare van dieselfde boom! Meer as ooit is hierdie stelling waar ... hierdie pandemie het alle mense bymekaar gebring onder dieselfde Boom van Lewe: maak nie saak wat jou agtergrond of kultuur, jou ras of geslag, ryk of arm, gelowige of ateïs nie. Ek het beslis nog nooit, en twyfel of ek ooit weer so ʼn ‘brotherhood of man’ sal ervaar nie.

“Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones. But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal. ‘A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts’, Mead said."

Spiritualiteit is KONNEKSIE.

Spirituality is found in our authenticity.

Concepts like: compassion, kindness, love, vulnerability, empathy, are all spiritual principles.

Before you know what kindness really is you must lose things, feel the future dissolve in a moment like salt in a weakened broth. What you held in your hand, what you counted and carefully saved, all this must go so you know how desolate the landscape can be between the regions of kindness. How you ride and ride thinking the bus will never stop, the passengers eating maize and chicken will stare out the window forever.

Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho lies dead by the side of the road. You must see how this could be you, how he too was someone who journeyed through the night with plans and the simple breath that kept him alive.

Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside, you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing. You must wake up with sorrow. You must speak to it till your voice catches the thread of all sorrows and you see the size of the cloth. Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore, only kindness that ties your shoes and sends you out into the day to gaze at bread, only kindness that raises its head from the crowd of the world to say It is I you have been looking for, and then goes with you everywhere like a shadow or a friend.

Wees veilig en bly gesond.

Met liefde

GEDAGTE VIR DIE WEEK

“Transformation isn’t sweet and bright. It’s a dark and murky, painful pushing. An unravelling of the untruthsyou’ve carried in your body.A practice in facing your own created demons.A complete uprooting, before becoming.”
